Slow Vista Startup - The Most Common Cause of a Slow Vista Startup Time
There is nothing more annoying then going to your computer in the morning...turning it on...then waiting FOREVER for it to startup. I bought a new computer running windows vista not to long ago and at the time it was a fast machine. Then over time it developed a slow vista startup until it finally got to the point that I could go eat breakfast and wash a load of cloths before it finally started up. When you live a hectic life and your always strapped for time then this is a serious problem.
The most common culprit behind a slow vista startup is the computers registry. Most people don't know the importance of the registry on their computer. The registry on a vista computer is comprised of keys and functions. Think of this as a library for your computer. The keys are like the index numbers on a book and the functions are like the books themselves. Now imagine that a libraries index system was not categorized properly. It becomes a lot more difficult to find what you are looking for. This is also the same for a computer. When the registry becomes corrupt the computer cant easily find the functions it needs to start up thus making it work a lot harder just to startup. This is what leads to your slow startup. Vista computers are notorious for this problem as their registry is highly sensitive.
Everyday actions such as installing new software or downloading anything from the Internet can cause your registry to become jumbled. It is almost impossible to avoid doing something to your registry every single day, so you need to be constantly repairing it to keep it up to par. However you can not repair the registry manually unless you are trained to do so and even most pros use a program to automate the process. So you will need a program if you intend on keeping your computer running smooth and keep it from having a slow vista startup.
There are several other tips and tricks you can use to help get rid of a slow vista startup but none of these are near as powerful as cleaning your registry and will not deliver the drastic results that the before mentioned method will. You should clean your registry before trying any other methods of speeding up your startup in vista. However if you do clean your registry and then try the other methods as well, then your computer will probably run even faster than when you first bought it! That is what happened to me.
