Lenovo IdeaPad U110 Review - Ideapad U110 is a Laptop to Love

If you are hoping to snag a quality Lenovo for under two thousand dollars, then the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is one you should consider. Here are some of the terrific features that make the Idea Pad U110 worth purchasing:

1. At three pounds, when it is fully loaded, it offers a lot of ease and convenience for those who have to carry their notebooks everywhere.
2. This one even comes with a cover sleeve when you purchase it.
3. You can choose from a couple of colors to break out of the all black laptop theme.
4. The IdeaPad has Bluetooth capability and also has A/B/G processing for WIFI purposes.
5. It offers you a grand flexibility with USB ports and memory card and express readers as well as your usual ports that will support Ethernet and Fire wire.
6. The total resolutions for the screen are (1368x768) and the display lacks a bit of sharpness as a result.
7. The nice sizing of the keyboard does make it really easy to work on even in less than optimum lighting.
8. The Idea pad U110 has a 2GB DDR2 RAM and also offers an Intel GMA X3100 graphic card.
9. The processor is a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2Duo L7500 and you should not have anything to complain about with speed.
10. You will love the cool VeriFace log in that comes as a built in feature. This uses your face to log in so your data is going to be kept safe and secure from any prying eyes. This identification process is made easy because the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 also comes with an integrated webcam as a standard feature.

Some of the very minor weak points of the Idea Pad U110 include:

1. One thing you will notice about this model is that it does tend to show fingerprints both on the case and the keyboard so keep a dry cloth handy if you want to keep it looking clean. Some people may not appreciate the fact that the housing case and the keyboard so readily attract fingerprints but this is not an insurmountable problem by any means.
2. You do not get an internal optical drive on this model but you do have an external optical drive.
3. The sound quality on the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is a bit weak but functional.
4. You also have both a 4 cell and a 7 cell battery with the IdeaPad and these do not show some of the power qualities that are on similar competitors. You will probably end up with about two hour's time on your 4 cell and maybe double that on the 7 cell. This is not a great amount of time and this is one of the drawbacks present with this particular series. If you are going to buy the IdeaPad U110 be wary of the short time on the battery life charge.

Japan Leads the Mobile Technology Market

While western designers and manufacturers battle to corner the mobile web market, and while debate rages as to whether the mobile web even has any value to the western world, Japan is surging ahead with its mobile web applications and devices. Those in the know say that Japan is at least five years ahead of the western world when it comes to mobile technology and it seems that despite recent steps forward (3G iPhone) the gap is widening all the time.

Now Jajah, a VoIP service provider has joined eMobile to release a new kind of mobile telephony service that will only be available in Japan (for now at least). The service will run on a handheld device that operates on a cellular data network and Jason Kincaid, from Techcruch IT, believes that it represents what all phone networks will eventually become.

The thing that makes this a rather unusual prediction for telephone services is that the device on which it is used (Sharp EM•ONE Ultra Mobile Device) lacks a radio for voice calls, even though it supports an HSDPA high-speed data network. The software developed by Jajah and eMobile gives the data-only device portable phone capabilities. Currently users are able to make outgoing calls, but have to pay a monthly subscription for a Direct Inward Dialling (DID) number in order to receive calls. And this is what Kincaid believes the future of telecommunications will become - VoIP over data.

But what works in Japan may not necessarily work for other countries around the world, no matter how much experts and innovators may want them to. According to a Techcrunch article by Serkan Toto, there are 90 million 3G in use in Japan and over 70% of the population subscribe to mobile web data plans. Meanwhile only 23.8% of the US population own 3G phones, which is still better than the 11.1% of the European population.

Serkan Toto believes that one of the reasons for the large discrepancy lies in the fact that Japanese companies never tried to recreate the wired internet experience on mobile phones, instead they worked to develop "unique mobile ecosystems" designed specifically to enhance the cell phone experience. In addition, email on mobile phones was enabled from the very start, so people learned to rely on their phones for their emailing needs and largely ignored email features on PCs. Despite some problems - insufficient CSS, lack of cookie support and restrictions by operators and the government - the mobile web in Japan is fast, sophisticated, stable and user-friendly.

So while people in Europe, Australasia and the Americas are getting excited about the fact that the new 3G iPhone allows for multiple tabs, the Japanese are using their phones as "e-wallets" to make over-the-counter payments, as commuter passes, in health control, and as digital TV and music players. Some can even transfer videos from Blu-ray recorders and are equipped with voice-to-text translation features.

Acer TravelMate 6291 - Stylish Laptop With All the Useful Technologies

Sneak Peek

People these days look for ultra portable laptops. These laptops are very useful and popular with people who have to travel frequently and to do a lot of office work on the move. Acer has introduced 12" laptop TravelMate 6291 with low price. This laptop looks a bit bland in appearance and hence it gives it a look of a business laptop. Its 2.04 kg weight makes it a little heavy for an ultra portable, but it does have a built-in optical drive. With the help of technologies ultra portables in the 2-3 kg weight class are getting cheaper these days, and they're getting ever smaller.

Key Features

Acer has done a very good job while integrating its features. The best thing is the built-in dual-layer DVD burner. Though it could have easily placed a DVD/CD-RW drive, instead it came up with the DVD burner. Another thing to notice over here is that it has three USB ports and a FireWire port. In most of the ultra portables you will only find two USB ports. It's one of the few ultra portables that has both S-Video-out and VGA-out. Acer TravelMate 6291 has also put in a line-out port for external speakers because the integrated speaker is not too impressive. Acer is one of the vendors that don't seem to favor cellular modems. But if it could have added it as an option then it would have been good.

Design

The frame of Acer TravelMate 6291 is made-up of magnesium alloy. This lightweight yet tough and cost effective metal is becoming a hot favorite among most of the PC makers. The screen of 6291 is 12". With a widescreen, Acer has also fit in a full-size keyboard. The Enter key is two-thirds the size of a typical one and the Arrow keys are also not too big, but the Backspace and Shift keys are a bit shrunken. The mouse button of 6291 is also quite noisy.

Core Information

The memory of Acer TravelMate 6291 is a bit disappointing. Windows Vista can not run properly on just 1GB of RAM.

The most terrible thing about the 6291's performance is its battery life. It lasts only for an hour and a half after playing a DVD movie, and that's simply not enough, even if how easy on the pocket the system is.

Conclusion

The Acer TravelMate 6291 is an eye-catching business laptop that gives you both marvelous portability and an exceptional price. It's customized to businesses that have limited funds and to employees who primarily answer a lot of e-mail and work with Microsoft Office. With the exception of the battery life, most of the performance drawbacks can be covered up by a simply upgrading the RAM.

Make an Impact With Flash Presentation

Are you still using printed brochures to promote your business? It's time for a change.

The way businesses market themselves has undergone a massive change in recent times. Traditional means of marketing and business promotion are proving to be expensive and less effective each passing day. This combined with the ever increasing IT-savvy segment, has caused a massive increase in IT based business promotion tools such as Flash presentations.

The reason Flash presentations are called so is because they are generally created using the highly powerful and versatile software known as FLASH. Using Flash, it becomes possible to combine various media elements such as audio, video, text and graphics into one effective presentation. The software also proves useful in creating animations for the purpose of communicating ideas and concepts.

The right impact that you can expect to make through a Flash presentation depends a lot on the quality of creative elements used in the presentation. The right script, impressive graphics and a professional voice-over can convert your Flash presentation into a virtual marketing representative offering powerful results.

Flash based presentations offer tremendous versatility in the choice of media used to package them. They are most popularly distributed as CD presentations. However they can also be optimised for TV and web, depending upon your specific requirements.

Top 8 Ways to Speed Up Your Computer

When you first purchase a computer, even after the first few programs are installed it remains blazingly fast! However after a few years of use your computer operation will slow down - imagine a partial blockage in a hosepipe that cannot be seen. It's such a gradual process that you hardly notice, but the more you use that hosepipe the more blocked it will get. This analogy could be taken further and you might consider the hosepipe's connection to water which is not clean an added cause for blockage (= pirate programs? / viruses / adware etc) or leaving the hosepipe outside for ages and not being wound up (= no maintenance / housekeeping), but as I don't do analogies...

So here are the top 8 ways to counteract everything that slows down a computer for FREE! Applicable to Windows XP or windows Vista, ignore this if you don't know what it means.

Defragment Your Hard Drive(s)

If you don't do this your hard disk(s) become fragmented by general use and when you new programmes are installed. When you install a program the file is generally placed on one part of the computer but after a while bits and pieces of data are spread across the hard disk. By using Windows 'Disk Defragmenter' the software moves all the bits of data into roughly one place. You can get to the file by clicking:

Start
All Programs
Accessories
Disk Defragmenter
Once the programme has fully loaded click on the top drive and work your way down.

Disk Cleanup

Disk cleanup performs 'housekeeping'. When you load most programmes, often bits of data that may have been used while the programme was running are left behind. Those programs don't generally bother deleting those, which can slow the computer down. You can easily and safely delete those bits of data by clicking:

Start
All Programs
Accessories
Disk Cleanup
If it comes up with a list of boxes make sure all are ticked.

Uninstall Unused Software

Uninstalling unused software speeds up the computer by freeing up space on the hard drive, cutting down on all the 'data sludge' that it has to wade through for normal use. To do this click the following:

Start
control Panel
Add or Remove Programs
Scroll threw the list and find the programs that you wish to remove
Click 'Add/Remove' or 'Remove'
If it asks you to confirm removal click 'Yes' or 'Confirm'

Run Windows Update

Windows update is a update service offered by Windows (surprise surprise). The updates
are generally security related but they can also include patches for added
stability. To run the update simply click:

Windows Update
And then complete the following
Windows XP
Start
Control Panel
Automatic Updates
Check the circle next to 'Automatic (recommended)'
Windows Vista
Start
Control Panel
On the left is 'Change Settings'
Check 'Automatic (recommended)'

Disable Indexing Services

Windows Indexing Services is a service that categorises all the files and folders on your hard drives. The problem with this is that it also slows down the computer considerably. To disable it click the following:

My Computer
Right Click 'Local Disk (C:)'
Click Properties
Uncheck 'Allow Indexing Service'

Stop Unwanted Start-up Programs

When you start up the computer and other programs automatically start that you don't necessary want at that time. Another problem is that it also slows the computer down. To remove the programs from start up (this does not remove the programs permanently) click:
XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Vista - C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

(Note - this directory is hidden by default)Delete the programs you don't want in loading when the computer starts up.

Extra Ram

RAM stands for Random Access Memory and your RAM helps to process all the information that goes through the computer. Broadly speaking the more RAM you have, the faster your computer. Unfortunately it does cost but prices are relatively cheap.
I use a website called 'Crucial' and they have a nifty little tool to help you sort things out.

Crucial - Homepage
Crucial System Scanner
Error-Checking
Error Checking can help diagnose and even correct a wide range of hard drive errors. It helps stability, speed and may even fix a few errors. To do it click:
Open 'My Computer'
Right click on one of the Hard Drives (usually C:)
Click 'Properties'
Click the 'Tools' Tab
Click 'Check Now'
Click both the boxes
Click Start
Restart thee computer if asked.

Notes:

You may want to bookmark this page for future reference, Firefox: press Ctrl-d to bookmark or 'Bookmark this page' in 'Bookmarks'. Internet Explorer: Press Ctrl-D or 'Add to Favourites' in 'Favourites'. Before we continue it is highly recommended that you back up your computer.
I cannot be held responsible for any problems that may be incurred while carrying out these suggested actions, however I may offer remote diagnostic assistance to help fix any existing computer problems.

I recommend you do this twice in a row and then repeat once a month. Hopefully after that your computer should be blazingly fast. If not, or if you want more speed try the links below. Also I don't recommend that you use any software apart from the software that comes with Windows.

Win32 Errors

Most people may know little about Win32. Win32 is a kind of windows API. The windows API is the lingo that Microsoft has given to the core set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) available in the Microsoft Windows operating systems. In a word, windows API is the application of interfaces on which depends the smooth operation of your pc.

The API is associated with DLLs very strongly. it consists of system DLL's imiplementing functions. Many people may not know about it and they leave it alone when they see DLL files. In fact, if you tinker around with DLL files too much they might get damaged or cause broken links, which will immediately give you a Win32 error. And you will sometimes create useless DLL files without knowing it. It is common that many people download software that come with a set of DLL files and then they download another software that used the same DLL files.

But When you uninstall one of the software and it's DLL files, it would leave the other software using the files high and dry. Then the software has not it's requisite DLL files, thus it cause windows Win32 errors. However, DLL files may also affect your registry.

The damaged DLL files will bloat or corrupt your registry, which will result in Win32 error messages, and hamper the functioning of your computer. We know that windows registry is very important database of windows operation system. It stores all the necessary information about system sets and it is necessary for system to run properly.

Printer Toner Cartridge - Reuse Them and Save Money!

It has become a lost art - the disposable society has got used to throwing everything away and ordering a new one. Take the simple printer toner cartridge - the average laser printer has four of them - each one takes about 2 liters of oil to produce. Inside is a very fine toner ink which is used to do the actual printing - when this runs out we throw the whole manufactured component away - it's almost like throwing your car away after you've used up all it's petrol. The printer toner cartridge just like your car can carry on working perfectly if it's refilled.

That's all it needs - put some ink in it and you're back printing - sound so simple doesn't it? Unfortunately the printer manufacturers don't want you to do this - they want you to buy a new one because that's where they make their profits. Even the green eco recycling schemes are really not necessary at this stage - you don't need to recycle it yet - the printer toner cartridge has just run out of ink.

There used to be little stoppers on the cartridges so you could refill them - they've gone now - that made them too refillable. Having said that it is surprisingly easy to refill the majority of printer toner cartridges with ease - just takes a little time (about ten minutes is my average)

The process varies between models but it's basically -

1. Make hole to pour in new toner ink.
2. Put in Toner carefully into the printer toner cartridge.
3. Put stopper in for refilling next time.
4. Place toner cartridge back in the printer.
5. Carry on printing.

It's not rocket science, you need no real skills - pretty much anyone can do it. Of course the process is slightly longer than putting in a brand new cartridge but not greatly. The costs savings vary quite a bit depending on which printer toner cartridge you are refilling but you can save up to 87% on the costs of a new cartridge. Many small businesses that do a lot of printing literally save thousands on the cost of buying a new printer toner cartridge.

The environmental benefits would be huge if everyone did this - 44 million new printer toner cartridges produced each year in Europe alone - approximately 75% of these are only used once then needlessly thrown away or recycled.

There are so many benefits to refilling your printer toner cartridge that it makes sense on many levels. You can help the environment and save loads of money and your print quality is maintained.
